Astrology of March 2025

Overview of March 2025

March is a very eventful and intense month astrologically.  Just as we all sighed a collective sigh of relief when Mars finally went direct on Feb. 24, we're in for two more retrogrades in March: Venus and Mercury.

March is also the eclipse season this year (it will spill into early April), with a Lunar Eclipse in Virgo on March 13 at 11:55 p.m. PDT, and a Solar Eclipse in Aries on March 29 at 3:58 a.m. PDT.

Eclipse Season

Eclipses are wild cards in astrology.  I've been tracking eclipses for a while, and I find that the sign they fall into and the aspects they make give us very accurate clues about new or unexpected developments the world is about to experience. After all, eclipses shake things up!

The nodal axis moved into Pisces-Virgo as of Jan. 2025. So, where can we expect the shake-ups? Sadly, we're already seeing some of them, such as layoffs of federal workers in the USA (Virgo eclipses can bring unexpected changes in job security and employment market, on a global scale or for specific countries).  Situations related to drugs can come into a sharp focus too, as well as matters related to country borders, including a potential redefinition of the borders!   Astrology never ceases to amaze me.

You can read my full post on the Pisces-Virgo eclipses here

But, the Solar Eclipse this month is in Aries, the last one in the series of Aries-Libra eclipses. And so it can close a war 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼, but it can also bring some unexpected developments involving the military.  Be careful around firearms, as well.

High Concentration of Energy in Pisces and Aries

Five planets are now gathered together in Pisces and Aries, which will last through the entire March and into April.  If your birthday is in March, there will be an area in your life receiving a supersized focus in the next 12 months.  This might be the year to order your Solar Return reading!

Venus Retrograde:  It's Not All Bad News This Time Around

Venus will be retrograde March 1-April 12.  So March is not the best month for engagements, proposals, weddings and new relationships. New projects related to the beautification of yourself or your home could face delays or issues.  And, purely elective cosmetic procedures could bring unwanted results, so reschedule any interventions after Venus turns direct on April 12.

But, what March is excellent for is cleaning up old messes if you need to, especially around love and negative thought patterns. This is because Mercury Retrograde and Venus Retrograde will overlap, between March 14 - April 7.   And, what is particularly amazing, they will be travelling pretty much through the same degrees of the Zodiac when retrograde! Venus will retrace her steps through 10° Aries to 24° Pisces, and Mercury will cover 9°  Aries to 26° Pisces through its retrograde motion.

If you want to make amends with a current or ex romantic partner, these two overlapping retrogrades are quite helpful too, especially March 11 (Mercury conjunct Venus) and March 22 (the Sun conjunct Venus).  If you're single, it may even rekindle the flames.

Venus Retrograde is also a great time though to renew your vows and, most importantly, to consider what truly maters to you in relationships.

Venus makes some very helpful aspects during this retrograde.  I cover them here

If You Need to Launch Something New, Do It Before March 10

Unless that new beginning has to do with love matters, new cosmetic procedures, or nice-to-have enhancements to your home, that is! Those are not recommended during Venus retrograde as I mentioned, so wait until April 12.

But, the first week of the month is actually pretty good for many other things.  It brings two Opportunity Periods and some very helpful planetary connections for work and communication-related activities, contracts, and cognitive therapy.  Read the full forecast for March 3-9 here

Mercury Retrograde:  March 14 - April 7

It feels like the first quarter of 2025 is one looooong retrograde.... For a double-whammy (sadly), Mercury will also turn retrograde in March!  As I mentioned, Venus and Mercury will be moving through pretty much the same section of the Zodiac: Mercury will cover 9°  Aries to 26° Pisces through its retrograde motion.

Check the House (=area of life) in your natal chart that these degrees fall into.  For example, for me it's my 5th House and 4th House.  That's where you may be revisiting some unfinished business or re-communicating something.

Also, remember that most Mercury-retrograde related mishaps happen in the days before and after it changes direction, so be on high alert March 10-20.  Proofread all important emails. If you absolutely must sign a legal document during this time, read the fine print.

Despite the bad rap it gets, every Mercury Retrograde is good for something. And this one, straddling Aries and Pisces, is excellent for discovering what triggers you, working on your patience, and paying attention to your dreams and keeping a dream journal!

Still, all the standard Mercury Rx cautions apply:

👉🏼 Check fluids in the car and air in the tires
👉🏼 Double-check your travel plans; give yourself some extra time to get to your destination
👉🏼 Back up data on your phone and computer
👉🏼 Remember to charge your phone
👉🏼 Review important e-mails, including the distribution list, before you click “Send”! Sending sensitive info to the wrong recipient can easily happen during Mercury Retrograde
👉🏼 If you must sign any important documents, read the fine print
👉🏼 If buying electronic devices or gadgets, save your warranty. Better yet, comparison-shop for big ticket items (electronics or vehicles) during Mercury Retrograde, and purchase after Mercury goes direct
👉🏼 And (borrowed from the art of feng shui), clean all windows and mirrors for clarity of thought and communication.

Most importantly, practice grounding and don't sweat minor Mercury Rx annoyances. This too shall pass!

March 10-16:  Read the Fine Print, Clean Up Old Messes, and...Have Mature Conversations About Relationships

This is the week when the intense energies start kicking in.  Mercury enters its Storm on March 11 and turns retrograde on March 14.  This week is a high danger zone for Mercury-Rx related mishaps, so if you must sign a contract, read the fine print.  Proofread important emails.  Give yourself lots of time to get to important appointments.

And, the Lunar Eclipse energies are starting to come in.  The Lunar Eclipse in Virgo is happening on March 13 at 11:55 p.m. PDT, so the entire week can be emotionally charged.   The eclipse energy is volatile, and it can be difficult to make a sound decision during the eclipse season, so if you can, save major decision-making for April.

What this Lunar Eclipse is fantastic for is to ask the Universe to help you let go of anything that is no longer in your best interest,  especially if there is something you're having a hard time letting go of!

This week is also very helpful for is making amends with your current or ex partner, and having a long, mature conversation about your relationship.  March 10-12 would be excellent days for that.

March 17-23:  Activate Your Vision Board on March 20!

The Sun enters Aries on April 20, and the new astrological year begins.  If you need to put together or refresh your vision board, do so on March 19 (the Sun conjunct Neptune), and activate it on April 20.  Simply leave it in your window where the sunlight can reach it, and ask the Universe to help you bring your vision for your life into reality.

And, March 21-22 are two excellent days to reach out to an ex to make amends, or to just say hi and see where it takes you.

March 24-31:  Plan a Romantic Date With Your Partner, and Get Ready for the Solar Eclipse

Venus and Mercury both enter Pisces this week, making the second half of the week an excellent time to bring some high romance into your relationship.  Think lace, roses, moonlight, romantic dinner...that type of thing.

But, the big event of the week is the Solar Eclipse in Aries, on March 29 at 3:58 a.m. PDT.  If you're a risk-taker at heart, set your intentions on this eclipse.  They can manifest fast, but in an unexpected and possibly even turbulent way.  But, if you feel like you're stuck and nothing else is helping, setting your intentions on an eclipse might just do the trick!

But, as mentioned, be careful around firearms in the days leading up to this eclipse, don't leave open fire unattended, and do your best not to speed when driving.

Now, these are the highlights for each week, but you can read the full forecast for each week here

Neptune Enters Aries:  March 30

Now, this is big!  Neptune changes signs every 14 years, so it's a very important energy shift.   Since 2011, we've lived with Neptune in Pisces (well except for its brief retrograde into Aquarius in late 2011-early 2012).

And, what's even more important, Saturn will be moving into Aries too, on May 25.  The two planets will form a near-conjunction in the summer, and it's a very impactful one!

Stay tuned for my upcoming post with more info on this major astro-event.

Cautions This Month:

✨ March 2:  Mercury conjunct Neptune;  the Sun square Jupiter

People can promise more than they can deliver today.  If something sounds too good to be true, it probably is.  On the plus side, it's a great day for writers!

✨ March 10 - 19:  Eclipse Season Starts, Mercury Enters its Storm and Turns Retrograde

Be on the lookout for Mercury Rx-related mishaps.  Give yourself plenty of time to get to important appointments.  Emotions can run high, especially in the lead up to the Lunar Eclipse on March 13.  And, decision-making may not be sound.

✨ March 24-31:   Part 2 of the Eclipse Season

Don't speed, be careful around firearms, and don't leave open fire unattended (the Eclipse is in Aries).  Save major decisions until mid-April.
