Saturn-Uranus Square: Socially Responsible Investing, Shortages, and Social Causes

On June 14, Saturn in Aquarius and Uranus in Taurus face off for the second time (out of 3) this year. The Saturn-Uranus square is a prominent astrological signature of 2021, coloring the entire year. It peaks on Feb. 17, June 14 and Dec. 24. But, we will feel it’s destabilizing yet innovative energy throughout the year.

Saturn is about “establishment”, structure, order and stability.  And Uranus is about shake-ups and change.

Aquarius is about technology, innovation, society and humanitarian causes.  And Taurus is about values, environment and financial institutions.

So what happens when these energies come together in the skies? A few things! Let’s talk about finances first.

Some time ago, I wrote that this year’s Saturn-Uranus energies can bring some shake-ups in the financial sector.  This week I attended an investment seminar by a major Canadian bank. Oh my goodness! I shook my head in amazement as I madly typed up my notes, laced with astrological observations.

ESG: Environmental, Social and Governance Responsibility

Social responsibility and humanitarian causes can be highlighted when there is strong Aquarius or Uranian energy. With the astrological players of 2021, it will be particularly relevant to governments (Saturn) or the financial sector (Taurus). 

Sure enough, ESG – environmental, social and governance criteria – have become all the rage in investing. Socially conscious investors care about their investments being socially and environmentally responsible, in addition to bringing return on investment. Does the company they invest in care about climate control? About gender diversity on the board of directors?

“Align your investments with your values” – so very Taurus! And, if your values are about social and environmental responsibility – so very Aquarius!

Social Media (Aquarius) Influencing Financial Industry (Taurus)

Investing has become influenced by social media, such as meme stocks and social influencers. A meme stock is a stock that has seen an increase in volume (and price) not because of the company’s performance, but because of hype on social media and online forums.  It can lead to drastic price increases in just a short amount of time.

Cryptocurrencies (Uranus)

Oh yes, and cryptocurrencies are highlighted with Uranus in Taurus.  Another trend that became red-hot this year. I wrote a post on May 7 about a possible bitcoin crash in late May-mid June, in the lead-up to Saturn-Uranus square #2, bringing an opportunity to buy low. A Saturn-Uranus square is an unstable energy that brings disruptions and fluctuations   And, Bitcoin went down 40% during square #1 in February.

Bitcoin crashed at the end of May, from the high of about $64,000 per unit in mid-April, to approximately $35,000.  

The next one to watch is Saturn-Uranus square #3, peaking on Dec. 24 2021. We will feel the energy for about 4 weeks leading to it.

OK, so that’s about finances. What else?

Shortages and Supply-Demand Imbalance

A Saturn-Uranus square can bring shortages and disruptions of the supply chain, which we have seen with vaccine production disruptions in January 2021, and inventory shortages in Canada driving real estate prices up and into a bubble (in combination with low interest rates).  Ironically, the first time the Saturn-Uranus square started forming in the skies in the spring of 2020, we had the infamous toilet paper shortage!

We will feel this energy throughout the entire year.  It will ease off in early 2022, but will return one more time in the fall of 2022.

Social Unrest and Social Causes

Considering the signs Saturn and Uranus are in, there can also be social unrest and “rebellion” in support of human rights and social causes. This has also been playing out in the world in a big way this year: months-long Indian farmers’ protests.  Anti-Asian racism rallies. Diversity and inclusion becoming a hot issue.

And at a Personal Level….

We can also feel this energy at a personal level, craving changes and freedom - especially for those born Jan. 24 -Feb. 3, April 26 -May 5, July 29 - August 7, October 29 -Nov. 7. You will also feel it if you have personal planets or Angles (Ascendant, IC, Descendant, Midheaven) are between 6-14 degrees of Aquarius, Taurus, Leo or Scorpio.

Something might shake up the foundations of your life, so to speak (Saturn), eventually leading to more freedom and new doors opening (Uranus).

While the square reaches its maximum strength on June 14, we started feeling it in May as the two planets were moving closer together.

Once the planets start moving away from one another, the impacts usually lessen. This year, the planets will be dancing toward each other pretty much through the entire 2021, so the energy won’t fully go away. There will be one more peak, on Dec, 24 2021…and then again Oct. 2-12 2022.
